Harlow North
iCube was appointed to the masterplanning team to lead with Paul
Murrain on the design for Harlow North by Ropemaker Properties Limited
(property nominee of the BP pension fund). The company is working
along side Savills, Beyond Green, Faber Maunsells and Environs as
wider design team members in the delivery of an outline planning
application in due course.
Harlow North is a proposal to build a sustainable urban extension to
Harlow north of the River Stort. The proposal is for 10,000 adaptable,
energy efficient, mixed tenure dwellings based in walkable
neighbourhoods with streets designed to be fully integrated with
Harlow, providing 12,000 jobs. With the possible future growth to
25,000 dwellings and circa 28,000 jobs beyond 2021, Harlow North and
the regeneration measures proposed by EERA, EEDA and Harlow District
Council, could enable Harlow's economy to grow steadily, attract new
employment and educational opportunities and become a location of
choice.
The Harlow North study makes a strong case for "wider sustainability
goals" and sets 10 "strategic principles" for new development. These
embrace, for instance, town centre revitalisation, fostering the
quality of spaces and streets, minimising environmental resource use
and waste, creating best practice urban settings and retention of an
enduring Harlow character.
