Pincents Hill
iCube was appointed to the masterplanning team to lead with Paul
Murrain on the design for Pincents Hill mixed use urban extension,
Reading, for Blue Sustainable Living. The company is working along
side, Beyond Green, WSP, Grant Associates, Fulcrum and Mae architects
as wider design team members in the delivery of an outline planning
application in mid 2009.
Blue Living aims to set new benchmarks with its projects. It seeks to
demonstrate in practice rather than theory, that well conceived,
planned and designed places and dwellings can provide superb
opportunities and spaces to live, work and play in the same
neighbourhood and in ways which may also make it far easier for people
to live happy and fulfilling lives in diverse, interesting and safe
communities but with far smaller carbon and environmental footprints.
In design terms Pincents Hill is conceived and assembled as a compact
settlement with a strong visual coherence and character. The compact
nature of the design means an efficient use of land with amenities
close by; it also frees up space for a community park, neighbourhood
centre and square, gardens and extensive green corridor. The plan of
circa 800 units plus employment and social infrastructure was
developed through a Design Enquiry approach over 4 days.
